The Four Winds

Many things in nature seem to run in fours; seasons, winds, bases on a baseball field, etc.  Here's some interesting knowledge: in the Hebrew book of Ezekiel (Chapter 1), the prophet Ezekiel has a vision of four winged beings with hundreds of eyes and four faces each; a man's, a lion's, an ox's, and an eagle's.  Centuries later, in the Christian book of Revelation (Chapter 4), the apostle John has a very similar vision and meets these same creatures, or very similar ones.  What are they?  Seraphs?  Angels?  No simple explanation is given in either text.  However, with some help from the powers of the imagination God granted me, I am under the impression that these are the Four Winds of the Earth; North, South, East, and West.  Several Native American traditions represent the winds with different colors; West is black as the Bringer of Rain, North is white as the Bringer of Snow, South is yellow as the Bringer of Warmth, and East is red as the Bringer of Dawn.
