Description
I LOVE MASKING LAYERS; it's like once you get going with it, it's all a cinch! It's still fairly tricky to work with, but so addicting; I'll probably get more accustomed to it the longer I use it.
I think the hardest part for this one, aside from finding an actual Disney badger not wearing clothes, was finding the right characters for Miraz, Nikabrick, and especially Reepicheep; Disney has a ton of mice, and plenty of feisty ones, but not a whole lot who seem to suit Reep's character. With Nikabrick, there are plenty of dwarves to choose from, but not ones I felt would suit him except Grumpy, and I love Grumpy too much to put him in a role that gets killed off, so I made him Trumpkin instead; for Miraz, most of the male Disney villains are pretty pompous and snide, but not in a scary way that isn't just plain crazy (and I thought Shan Yu was a little too scary for that position). The thing about Reepicheep is his charisma coupled with his capabilities when measured against his size; there are very few Disney mice with that kind of character who can actually be taken seriously. In the end, despite the fact that Jake is not officially a mouse, and also falls more into the Indiana Jones category of rakish, I mainly picked him because of his swaggering attitude, which you see more of in the fifth book, "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" (I won't spoil anything; read it yourself!).
This is very likely where I learned my sensitivity to music; the radio drama for this book (which is right here for a listen: www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMT7tT…) holds me by the throat whenever I listen to it. I wish I could find out the names of the pieces they were using, especially for the calling of the trees; I'm going to see those trees walking one day. Another live read audio for just the book, if you want it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs7Ul6…; thank you, everyone!
*Update: I found the book online: gutenberg.ca/ebooks/lewiscs-pr…
